Three Secret Service communications officials have been escorted out of agency headquarters and placed on administrative leave.
Anthony Guglielmi, the agency’s chief spokesman, was among those removed from the building in Washington, D.C. All three worked in the communications office and held no law enforcement roles.
The suspended officials also had their security clearances revoked and were added to a “do not admit” list, barring them from re-entering agency facilities. A source told reporters that both the FBI and CIA are involved in the investigation, which centers on allegations that classified or sensitive information was leaked to the press.
The Secret Service has not confirmed that claim or acknowledged any involvement by either federal agency. The agency formally confirmed on August 25, 2026 that three employees had been placed on leave pending a review by the Office of Professional Responsibility, the internal body responsible for investigating employee misconduct allegations.
As originally reported, the agency declined to name the three individuals and did not describe the specific nature of the alleged misconduct. Officials also did not confirm whether the probe actually involves media leaks. Suspension during an active investigation and temporary clearance revocation are standard procedural steps and do not indicate guilt.
The Secret Service released a statement saying it holds all employees to a high standard of professionalism and integrity. The agency added that its personnel are expected to demonstrate commitment to duty, honesty, and courage. No further comment was offered while the review remains ongoing.
Speculation has grown that the investigation may be connected to the disclosure of details surrounding President Donald Trump’s visit to Turkey earlier this year. During that trip, Israeli intelligence reportedly intercepted word of a possible assassination plot targeting Trump. That warning led him to switch military aircraft before departing the country.
Trump himself confirmed he boarded a different plane after the intelligence was received. The alleged plot is believed to have been organized by Iran, a nation currently at odds with both the United States and Israel. Several members of the president’s staff, a number of Secret Service agents, and a small group of journalists also left the original presidential aircraft while Trump was moved to another plane.
The Secret Service has given no indication of a timeline for the review’s conclusion.
