A spectator carrying a Palestine flag ran onto the field during the Yankees-Mets game at exactly 9:11 p.m. Eastern Time on the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
The person entered from the left-field seats and sprinted toward center field during the top of the seventh inning. Security personnel and police gave chase. The individual briefly avoided them before being brought down on the outfield grass and taken into custody. Officers then removed him from the field through the center-field wall exit.
As originally reported, the New York Post noted that the individual was kicking at security officers while being carried off the field. Fans sitting above the Mets bullpen threw beer cans at the person during the removal. The crowd responded with loud booing, followed by sustained chants of “USA.”

The person has not been publicly identified, and no details have been released about how they accessed the field.
The incident unfolded on a night that began with solemn tribute. Yankee Stadium hosted memorial ceremonies before first pitch to mark 25 years since the September 11, 2001 attacks. Current Yankees players placed a wreath at the 9/11 monument inside Monument Park.
Honor guards from the NYPD, FDNY, and Port Authority Police Department presented the colors on the field. A large American flag was stretched across the outfield. Opera tenor James Valenti performed the national anthem. Lee Greenwood followed with “God Bless America.”
Several members of the celebrated 2001 Yankees roster participated in the ceremonies, including Derek Jeter, Joe Torre, Jorge Posada, Paul O’Neill, Tino Martinez, Scott Brosius, and Mariano Rivera. Two individuals with personal ties to the attacks, Brielle Saracini and Sean McGuire, both of whom lost a parent on September 11, threw ceremonial first pitches on behalf of all children who suffered that loss. The stadium also recognized the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, Tuesday’s Promise, and the NYPD, FDNY, and Port Authority Police Department for their continued service and sacrifice.
