Seven people were shot at a Minneapolis apartment building after officers responded to an eviction dispute.
The shooting happened at 15 East Grant Street in Minneapolis’ Loring Park neighborhood. Police were called to the building after reports of a disturbance involving a resident who had been evicted earlier that day. Gunfire broke out around the time officers entered the building.
All seven shooting victims were transported to Hennepin Healthcare. One person died. Six others were injured, including two Minneapolis police officers.
One officer was shot in the stomach and underwent surgery. The second was shot in the leg and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. A senior official told local outlet WCCO that both officers were expected to recover.
According to original reporting, multiple law enforcement sources told WCCO the gunman died by suicide at the scene, though that information had not been officially confirmed as of the time of the report. No identifications of the deceased, the injured civilians, or the shooter had been released by late afternoon. Conditions of the other injured victims were not immediately disclosed.
The City of Minneapolis issued a formal statement confirming the shooting. “The Minneapolis Police Department is on the scene of a shooting in the area of 15 E Grant St. involving multiple victims, including two police officers. Please avoid the area. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available,” the statement read.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz also responded publicly. “Grateful to law enforcement actively working to ensure the safety of our neighbors in Downtown Minneapolis this afternoon. Minnesota is praying for our first responders,” he said.
The scene drew a significant law enforcement presence. Multiple state and local agencies responded, along with federal agents from the FBI and the ATF. FBI Director Kash Patel said the bureau would “offer any and all resources necessary to assist local authorities.”
