Rick Harrison Undergoes Emergency Bypass Surgery After Routine Procedure

Rick Harrison went in for a stent procedure and ended up in emergency bypass surgery.

The 61-year-old “Pawn Stars” star is now recovering in the hospital after what was supposed to be a routine heart procedure took a far more serious turn. A spokesperson for the Harrison family confirmed the news to TMZ, explaining that doctors discovered a more significant problem during the initial procedure and determined bypass surgery was necessary.

The operation was performed on an emergency basis.

As originally reported, Harrison is now resting comfortably and is expected to make a full recovery. His representative said the longtime History Channel personality is grateful for the medical care he has received. His wife, Angie, along with other family members, has remained by his side throughout his recovery.

The health scare comes just months after Harrison traveled to Washington for the Small Business Summit at the White House. During that visit, President Donald Trump praised Harrison while the two discussed small business and Harrison’s career in the pawn industry.

Harrison built his public profile through “Pawn Stars,” the hit reality series centered on the World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas. The show premiered in 2009 and quickly made Harrison, his family members, and the shop’s employees some of the most recognizable faces in reality television. Over the years, Harrison became known for evaluating rare collectibles, historical artifacts, and unusual memorabilia while striking deals with customers on camera.

The sudden turn during what was expected to be a minor procedure marks a significant health scare for the veteran television personality. His family, however, says he is recovering well and focused on getting back on his feet.
