Former CIA Director John Brennan has been ordered to testify before a federal grand jury in Florida.
Brennan is scheduled to appear on October 15 in Fort Pierce, Florida, according to a court filing submitted by his attorney, Ken Wainstein. The subpoena was served to Brennan’s legal team last week.
Wainstein described the Justice Department investigation as a “far-reaching” criminal probe. Its central question is whether former intelligence and law enforcement officials worked together to deprive President Donald Trump of his civil rights, through years of federal investigations targeting him.

According to the original report, prosecutors also told Wainstein that Brennan remains a target in a separate Washington investigation. That probe focuses on whether Brennan made false statements to Congress in 2023. Brennan and his attorneys have denied that allegation.
The Florida investigation has focused heavily on the origins of the Trump-Russia probe and other federal investigations connected to Trump. Prosecutors have examined the conduct of officials who were involved in inquiries into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, as well as the later probe into classified documents recovered from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.
Brennan served as CIA director during the Obama administration. He has long denied any wrongdoing.
The subpoena marks a significant escalation in an investigation that has been building for months. It also arrived amid notable turmoil within the probe itself. Joe diGenova, a veteran prosecutor who had been helping lead the inquiry, resigned from his Justice Department role on the same day Brennan’s subpoena was delivered. The Justice Department has not publicly named a replacement for diGenova.
