JD Vance offered to personally buy a protester’s plane ticket to Mexico after the heckler waved a Mexican flag during his speech.
The incident unfolded Thursday, September 10th, at the RNC Midterm Convention inside American Airlines Center in Dallas. Vance was mid-speech, covering American families, national identity, border security, and the stakes of November’s elections, when a protester began shouting and waving a Mexican flag from the audience. Security moved in quickly and escorted the individual out as the crowd booed.
The official broadcast did not capture the disruption as it happened. Vance stopped his remarks, explained what the audience at home had missed, and then delivered the line that brought the house down.

“What the people at home missed is that we just had a protester interrupting us and waving the Mexican flag,” Vance said in a video posted to X. “Well, my friend, if you love Mexico so much, get your ass over there. I’ll buy you the plane ticket.”
The crowd erupted. Chants of “USA, USA” filled the arena. As originally reported, the New York Post noted it was the first time a protester had managed to disrupt a speaker during the two-day Republican gathering.
Rather than returning to his prepared text, Vance pivoted. He used the moment to draw a sharp contrast between what he called the symbolism of the far left and American patriotism. “Ladies and gentlemen, I had a whole speech written, but I think I gotta change it because we just discovered the symbol of the far left,” he told the crowd. He defined that symbol as “an idiot waving a Mexican flag at a protest when he should be waving the flag of the United States of America.”
Vance then made a pointed observation about the protester himself. “As much as that person might wave around a foreign flag, he’d much rather live in Dallas or in Cincinnati, or in any one of our great cities than Mexico,” he said, drawing more cheers from the audience.
He returned to the core argument of his speech, warning that American prosperity and safety are not guaranteed. “But while we wave the American flag and fight for the American dream, we have to remind ourselves tonight that the good life that is the foundation of this country’s promise is not guaranteed.”
Vance then turned his fire on Democrats, accusing their candidates of trying to control what children can say, how Americans choose to live, and who they are expected to oppose. He urged Republican voters to stay united heading into November, even on issues where they disagree with the administration.
He closed that portion of his address with a direct call to action: “Let’s send these lunatics packing and govern our country for the future.”
