Fox News abruptly ended its relationship with anchor Maria Bartiromo on Thursday, closing out more than 12 years at the network.
The company, which operates both Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network, offered no reason for the split. A spokesperson kept the statement brief: “We thank Maria for her work over the last 12 1/2 years and wish her all the best on her next chapter.”
Bartiromo had been a fixture at Fox Business since joining in 2014, holding the title of global markets editor. She built a loyal following as host of the weekday show “Mornings with Maria” and the weekly program “Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street.” She also anchored “Sunday Morning Futures” on Fox News Channel, a program focused on business, politics, and public policy.
As originally reported, Bartiromo came to Fox with an already-distinguished career in financial television behind her. She spent 20 years at CNBC, joining the network in 1993 after starting out behind the scenes at CNN Business News. During her time at the NBCUniversal-owned outlet, she hosted “Closing Bell,” a flagship program, along with “The Wall Street Journal Report,” which was later rebranded as “On the Money with Maria Bartiromo.”
Her most historic achievement came on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, where she became the first journalist ever to broadcast live. That milestone alone cemented her reputation as one of the country’s most prominent financial journalists long before she made the move to Fox.
By the time she arrived at Fox Business in 2014, Bartiromo was already a well-recognized name in both financial and political media circles. Her programs drew consistent audiences across business news and Sunday political coverage alike.
No successor has been announced. Fox has not indicated what changes, if any, are planned for the programs she hosted.
