Four teenagers were arrested after fights erupted at the Memphis Delta Fair on a busy Saturday night.
The brawl broke out September 12th, the final full Saturday of the 2026 Delta Fair and Music Festival at the Agricenter in Memphis. Families had come for midway rides, livestock shows, concerts, circus performances, a petting zoo, and a children’s barnyard. The fair had been running since September 4th and was set to close the following day.
Three of the arrested teens were charged with simple assault. A fourth was charged with resisting official detention. Because all four are juveniles, their identities were not publicly released. The charges remain allegations unless proven in court.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said the disorder involved fights between groups of minors attending without adult supervision. As the situation spread through the crowded fairgrounds, deputies temporarily suspended operations out of what officials called an abundance of caution. The response quickly grew beyond the on-site security detail. Tennessee Highway Patrol officers and Homeland Security investigators were called in to manage traffic and secure the surrounding parking lots.
As originally reported, the fair had a standing weekend chaperone policy designed to keep unsupervised minors out during peak hours. Under those published rules, visitors 17 and younger were required to wear a wristband and be accompanied by an adult at least 25 years old when entering after 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Social media posts placed the disturbance on Saturday night, when that policy should have been in effect for any teenagers arriving at the gates.
Admission to the fair was set at $15 for visitors 13 and older, $10 for children between 5 and 12, and free for children 4 and under. The fair’s official description calls the annual event exciting, interactive, and educational.
Saturday’s chaos is not the first safety incident at the Delta Fair. In 2019, someone fired several shots into the air at the same fairgrounds, sending attendees running and leaving people injured in the resulting stampede. Fair officials responded by wanding every visitor, repairing perimeter breaks, and adding more security personnel and deputies. A large fight was also reported there in 2015, and a separate 2016 stampede occurred after a gunshot sound from a Western rodeo performance frightened the crowd.
Similar disorder has surfaced elsewhere around Memphis in recent months. In October 2025, police broke up a gathering of between 300 and 500 juveniles after several teens allegedly attacked a 14-year-old and grabbed his mother by the hair when she stepped in. In July 2026, five juveniles were arrested for disorderly conduct and drug possession after fireworks were discharged into a crowd at Bartlett’s Independence Day celebration, forcing portions of the audience to flee the area.
