Surveillance footage shows Eric Swalwell surrounded by FBI agents at San Francisco International Airport as authorities seized his phone and laptop.
The video, obtained by the California Post, captures the encounter on Aug. 15, after the former congressman arrived in California. Swalwell, dressed in a hat, black sweatshirt, and sneakers, is seen speaking with multiple agents near his gate while other travelers move through the terminal around him. He appears calm and cooperative throughout.
The footage then shows Swalwell walking through the airport carrying a backpack and rolling a suitcase, escorted by agents. He is taken up an escalator and led into a hallway marked as a restricted area, eventually entering a room with several people inside.
According to originally reported details tied to the search warrant, federal agents served Swalwell with the warrant at approximately 8:25 p.m. that evening. Authorities took a white Apple iPhone, a charging cable, a wall adapter, and an Apple MacBook Pro. The FBI left Swalwell with a copy of the warrant and an itemized inventory of everything seized.
The video does not show agents placing Swalwell under arrest. He was reportedly allowed to leave once the search concluded.
The airport encounter was not an isolated event. The following day, agents executed additional warrants at Swalwell’s Washington, D.C., home and seized further potential evidence, according to a source previously cited by the New York Post.
The warrant used at the airport reportedly cited a federal civil-rights statute. That statute can be applied to prosecute public officials accused of abusing government authority.
Swalwell previously served as a Democratic congressman from California. The investigation remains ongoing.
