Ron DeSantis told a heckler George Soros wasn’t paying her enough.
The Florida Republican governor was mid-speech at a Tampa campaign event, talking about the state’s economy, when a woman in the crowd interrupted him. DeSantis didn’t miss a beat. He pointed at her and fired back, “Hey, Soros isn’t paying you enough because you’re not very good at this.” Security moved in quickly as the crowd jeered.
He kept going. “You should try again,” DeSantis told her. “He needs to pay some better talent instead of having people like you show up. This ain’t my first rodeo, lady. I’ve seen it all, and you ain’t very good at it.”
The first heckler wasn’t the only one. A second person stood up later that same evening and tried a similar disruption. DeSantis was ready again.
As originally reported, DeSantis leaned over the podium and addressed the second heckler directly. “Let me just give you guys some advice: standing up and screaming is not effective,” he said. He went on to reference a past confrontation, telling the crowd, “I remember I had Antifa charge me and one of our Florida Department of Law Enforcement leveled them, and it was funny, and it was good.
He circled back to Soros again. I think Soros is tightening his wallet because the people he’s paying are terrible at this,” DeSantis said. “He used to hire people who were really good. Now they’re just screeching.” He closed by telling the hecklers to be respectful and, if they weren’t willing to do that, to at least do a better job protesting. “Gosh,” he added.
The clip spread quickly on the platform X, where conservative commentators reacted enthusiastically. Commentator Eric Daugherty wrote, “THAT’S MY GOVERNOR!! DeSantis just PUMMELED a leftist heckler who disrupted his speech tonight.” A user named Greg posted, “Soros protester is re-thinking opening her mouth at the RPOF Event. DeSantis with the takedown.” The DeSantis Appreciation Society account called him “The Tribal Chief” and said he “bodied a Soros protester into next week.” Another popular conservative account called him “a legend” and said he “absolutely obliterated a liberal heckler.”
Soros’ philanthropic organization, the Open Society Foundations, did push back. The group pointed Fox News to a 2025 statement saying, “We do not pay people to protest or directly train or coordinate protestors.”
DeSantis made no indication he was persuaded. The video continued to circulate widely across social media following the event.
