Kevin Sorbo says he will never move back to California. The actor, best known for playing the title role in the 1990s TV series Hercules, made that clear in a recent Fox News interview. His reason, delivered in three words: taxes, traffic, and negativity.
Sorbo has lived in Florida for seven years, and he says the move was worth it. He told Fox News that Florida gave him something he found nearly impossible to get in California, which was acceptance.
As originally reported, Sorbo is currently starring in a new faith-based film called Elijah Peel, and he spoke candidly about life on both coasts while promoting it.
He does not pretend California has nothing going for it. He acknowledged missing Westlake Village, Thousand Oaks, his golf course, his former home, and the state’s famously mild weather. But he says those are not enough to bring him back.
“There are things I miss,” Sorbo said, “but they can keep their taxes, they can keep their traffic, and they can keep their negativity. I’m done.”
He also addressed Florida’s climate directly. The humidity runs high for about five months out of the year, he admitted, and the summers get hot. But he balanced that against what he sees as the upside. “The winters here are really quite amazing,” he said.
The interview captures a sentiment that has become familiar in recent years, with California residents citing taxes and cost of living as reasons to head elsewhere. Sorbo left seven years ago and has not looked back. By his account, the Florida winters alone make the trade more than fair.
