Former CIA Director John Brennan has been subpoenaed to testify before a federal grand jury in Florida as part of a sweeping Justice Department investigation.
Brennan’s attorney, Ken Wainstein, disclosed the subpoena through a court filing, confirming that prosecutors served it on his client. Brennan is required to appear on October 15, 2026, before a grand jury convening in Fort Pierce, Florida.
The Scope of the Investigation
Wainstein described the probe as “far-reaching,” saying it is examining whether government officials who investigated President Donald Trump over the past decade conspired to deprive him of his civil rights. The investigation has been referred to informally within legal circles as the “grand conspiracy” inquiry.

Brennan is also a target in a separate Washington-based investigation, according to Wainstein. That probe centers on whether Brennan lied to Congress in 2023, allegations he has completely denied. That disclosure came just hours before a scheduled court hearing in Washington tied to a lawsuit Brennan himself filed.
In that lawsuit, Brennan is seeking a court order to preserve all records connected to investigations targeting him. His legal team argues those documents are critical to contesting any potential indictment on the grounds of vindictive prosecution.

The October 15 grand jury date in Fort Pierce now stands as the next major milestone in the case. With diGenova gone and no replacement named, the transition in leadership adds uncertainty to an already complex investigation spanning at least two jurisdictions.
