Cenk Uygur’s chair collapsed under him live on air mid-argument on Piers Morgan Uncensored.
The Young Turks founder was deep into a heated exchange defending Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed when the seat gave way. The on-air mishap capped a segment that had already spiraled into a full-volume shouting match.
Uygur appeared on the show Thursday alongside Republican strategist Ronna McDaniel. The debate centered on El-Sayed, Uygur’s nephew and progressive streamer Hasan Piker, and the competitive Michigan Senate race.
Host Piers Morgan opened the controversy by raising a CBS News report that examined deleted social media posts from El-Sayed. Among those posts were comments drawing a comparison between the COVID-19 death toll and the nearly 3,000 Americans killed in the September 11 attacks.
As originally reported, Uygur pushed back hard, accusing CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss of targeting El-Sayed because he is Muslim. He argued that El-Sayed had deleted all of his posts from before 2023, not just the ones highlighted in the report.
Uygur then pivoted to Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers, accusing him of having worked for Israel for two decades. He questioned why Rogers was not being pressed to denounce Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Uygur also declared himself an “unsanctioned surrogate” for El-Sayed.
McDaniel redirected the conversation toward Piker and his history of inflammatory statements about the United States. She cited past remarks in which Piker said he hated America.
That landed hard with Uygur. “We love America! We love America so much we want to represent America instead of Israel,” he fired back.
The exchange grew louder as McDaniel and Uygur repeatedly cut each other off. Morgan then attempted to roll a video compilation showing Piker saying “I hate America” during his livestreams.
All of it unfolded on a set where Uygur’s chair had already given out under him, turning an already chaotic segment into something viewers were unlikely to forget.
