Not a single person in the crowd joined Amy Acton’s chant at her own rally.
The Ohio Democratic gubernatorial nominee tried to fire up supporters with a repeated sing-song line targeting Republican opponent Vivek Ramaswamy. It did not go as planned. Acton chanted, “You cannot buy this state! You cannot buy Ohioooo! You can’t buy us! You can’t buy us!” She kept going, visibly trying to pull the crowd in. Nobody joined her. She wrapped it up with, “That is the end of this.”
The footage, which spread quickly online, showed Acton as the lone voice in the room while the crowd stood silent. The moment made it appear as though her supporters were not connecting with her message, her energy, or the political theater she was attempting.

As originally reported by Gateway Pundit, Acton’s campaign has declined to participate in any debates against Ramaswamy. Eric Daugherty, a reporter for Right Line News, posted the video to his X account and did not hold back. “Not only is this woman unhinged but she will govern Ohio like a LEFTIST DEMOCRAT the moment she gets in,” he wrote. “No wonder she’s refusing to debate @VivekGRamaswamy.”
Acton is perhaps best known publicly for receiving a DUI and for consuming alcohol while on prescription drugs. Those facts have followed her into the campaign and given her critics plenty of material.
Ramaswamy, meanwhile, has accepted debate invitations from both CNN and Cincinnati’s WLWT. He has framed the debates as a job interview that Ohio voters are owed by anyone seeking to lead the state. His willingness to show up on stage stands in direct contrast to Acton’s campaign, which has not agreed to face him in any format.
The video of the failed chant is now circulating widely, adding another rough news cycle to a campaign that has already dealt with significant baggage. For a candidate trying to build momentum against a high-profile Republican opponent, a silent crowd at your own rally is not the image any campaign wants circulating online.
Whether Acton can reset her footing before Election Day remains to be seen. But with no debates scheduled and a viral moment working against her, the path forward is not getting any easier.
