Never Forget: City in Ilhan Omar's district voted to eliminate Pledge of Allegiance, but it was later restored

Here's one of our throwback stories going back to 2019 when a group of people literally voted to eradicate the Pledge of Allegiance from their meetings. This is America, right?

A city council meeting in Ilhan Omar's district just voted to eliminate the Pledge of Allegiance before every meeting in order to make it a more welcoming environment and not to offend anyone. However, it's America and it's literally where we live. It's our flag, so we shouldn't be ashamed or offended by it. Well, that's not the case in St. Louis Park City where they once voted against the POA bya vote of 5-0. This vote took place on June 17, 2019, and they all voted to drop the pledge.  CBS local in Minnesota reported:

"In order to create a more welcoming environment to a diverse community, we are going to forgo saying the Pledge of Allegiance before every meeting,” said Council Member Tim Brausen

At the meeting, Brausen said members might recite it in the future if there’s an appropriate opportunity, like if Boy Scouts are there.

Ellen Hertz, a business owner in the city, says she has no problem with the change, but doesn’t think it was necessary.

“In terms of what would offend people and what offends me, that’s not at the top of the list,” Hertz said.

The good news is they later restored the Pledge of Allegiance. At least some folks had some sense.

whatfinger news nacho
