Biological male wins 'Woman' of the year award, igniting critics

A biological male won a 'women of the year' award handed out by the Glamour publication, sparking critics to be outraged that a "real woman" lost the chance to win the award when the male contestant took it. The male, Geena Rocero, was one of the "women of the year" winners, as there were several who were named - but are the critics right in what they say, that the award should have went to a real woman? Is it insulting to women when a male takes their awards? What is the message being sent to real women? Is it that real women aren't good enough to be named woman of the year when a guy in lady clothes takes the prize? A lot of people want the woman of the year awards to be given to actual women, not men dressed up as women. Rocero, who is revealed to be a biological male who transition to female, had her story shared in a write-up posted by Glamour that included how she got her start in the female modeling world. A mentor and older draw queen, named Tigerlily Garcia Temporosa, took Rocero in and gave the model a chance to find the fame that is now being celebrated in the article.Temporosa said of Rocero at the time, “At 15 years old she took the highest titles here in the national pageant. I [was] so proud and so happy. A lot of good transgender [competitors] wanted me to handle them, at that time, with Geena rising as a promising star.”
