BAY CITY, MI – Vice President J.D. Vance visited Vantage Plastics, a plastic manufacturing facility in Bay City, Michigan, on Friday, accompanied by U.S. Small Business Administration chief Kelly Loeffler. During a speech to workers, Vance took aim at demonstrators gathered outside the event, suggesting they should “get off the streets and get back to work.”

The vice president’s remarks came as he toured the plant and spoke about “America’s industrial resurgence,” a key focus of President Donald Trump’s administration. Vance argued that the presence of protesters outside the facility underscored the need to revitalize U.S. manufacturing to reduce idle time among the population.

“We’ve got this great event, this great facility, great business and of course, great workers,” Vance said. “I’m sure all of us saw there were a few protesters outside and I can’t be the only person wondering, you know, it’s a little after noon on a Friday, and don’t you all have jobs?”

Vance emphasized the importance of rebuilding American manufacturing and supporting companies like Vantage Plastics, stating, “We want these people to get off the streets and back to work. It’d be good for them and it’d be good for everybody else too,” as reported on USA Journal.

According to Bridge Michigan, Vantage Plastics received a $1.2 million grant from the state in 2023 to establish its operations and create 93 new jobs. The event attended by Vance and Loeffler focused on discussions surrounding the “future of American manufacturing,” a sector the Trump administration has prioritized.
The vice president’s comments drew attention to the administration’s ongoing efforts to bolster the manufacturing industry and encourage job growth across the United States.
