NY Govt takes heat after Peanut the Squirrel gets euthanized

The beloved domesticated pet named Peanut the Squirrel was officially euthanized. This happened after people on the Internet reported the NY man who had the squirrel and a pet racoon. The pet-lover, Mark Longo, told his story on his Instagram page. Collin Rugg also reported on the highly criticized decision by the New York Government: Collin said:<br /><br /> <blockquote> <div>The owner of Peanut the squirrel explains how New York officials raided his house, took Peanut and his raccoon, and k*lled them.</div> <div> </div> <div>7-year-old Peanut and Fred the raccoon were euthanized after anonymous complaints. </div> <div> </div> <div>“Officers raided my house as if I was a drug dealer. I was sat outside my house for five hours. I had to get a police escort to my bathroom.”</div> <div> </div> <div>“I wasn't even allowed to feed my rescue horses breakfast or lunch. I was sit, sat there like a criminal after they interrogated my wife to check out her immigration status.”</div> <div> </div> <div>“Then proceeded to ask me if I had cameras in my house. Then proceeded to go through every cabinet, nook and cranny of my house for a squirrel and raccoon.”</div> <div> </div> <div>“They got a search warrant for departments, and a judge signed off on a search warrant for a squirrel in a raccoon. And then they took them and k*lled them.”</div> <div> </div> </blockquote> RFK said: "Our government is off the rails." The reason Peanut and the raccoon were euthanized is because they're wild animals and may have rabies, which becomes a health issue. A <a href="https://www.msn.com/en-us/lifestyle/lifestyle-buzz/why-was-peanut-the-squirrel-euthanized-the-controversy-explained/ar-AA1tofcU" target="_blank">report from MSN/USA Today</a> explained <strong>why Peanut the Squirrel was euthanized</strong>:<br /><br /> <blockquote> <div>Peanut the Squirrel and Longo's other pet, a raccoon named Fred, were seized from his home by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.</div> <div> </div> <div>According to NBC News, the DEC received multiple anonymous complaints about Peanut and showed up to Longo's home with "at least six officers" to take Peanut and Fred away.</div> <div> </div> <div>In a joint statement, the DEC and the Chemung County Department of Health say they are "coordinating to ensure the protection of public health related to the illegal possession of wild animals that have the potential to carry the rabies virus." </div> </blockquote>
