A Monday morning law enforcement operation in Biddeford, Maine turned deadly after an individual allegedly attempted to ram a federal agent with a vehicle, resulting in a fatal shooting and a massive multi-agency response.
Pool Street near Hill Street was shut down as investigators from multiple agencies converged on the scene. Maine State Police, the FBI, and the Biddeford Police Crime Scene Unit were all present, with evidence markers and two large canopies visible in the roadway. Biddeford police confirmed the road closure at approximately 8:15 a.m.
As originally reported, an eyewitness told the Portland Press Herald that an agent opened fire after someone tried to ram them with a vehicle. The incident involved Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, though the exact nature of their operation has not been officially disclosed.
Biddeford Police Chief JoAnn Fisk confirmed her department is not leading the investigation. Local officers are assisting, but the FBI and the Maine Attorney General’s Office are expected to handle all official communications going forward.
Maine House Speaker Ryan Fecteau acknowledged the incident Monday morning in a brief statement, confirming one fatality and ICE’s involvement. “A person was killed. ICE was involved. State Police and the Department of Public Safety are now on scene to gather details and would expect the FBI to investigate as well. These are the details that I have at this time. I will provide further updates, as they are relayed to me.”
A neighbor told local media she was jolted awake around 8 a.m. by the sound of gunshots, only to look outside and find her street transformed into an active law enforcement scene.
Critical questions remain unanswered. Authorities have not officially confirmed who was killed, who fired the weapon, or the specific circumstances that led to the confrontation. The FBI and state investigators are expected to release further details as their investigation progresses.
