Bernie Sanders Rebuts Trump’s Claim of Centenarians Receiving Social Security

In a recent address, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) firmly refuted President Donald Trump’s assertion that Social Security benefits are being disbursed to deceased individuals aged between 100 and 360 years.

During a livestreamed response to President Trump’s speech to Congress on March 4, Sanders stated: “Nobody who is 150 years old or 200 years old or 300 years old is receiving Social Security.”

This comment was aimed at countering President Trump’s claim that millions of deceased individuals, some purportedly aged between 100 and 360, were collecting Social Security benefits. The reason it was said in the first place is because OTHER people are using the social security numbers of deceased individuals to gain the benefits for their own good.

Sanders emphasized that over 99% of Social Security checks are issued to eligible recipients who have earned them. He also highlighted that no one of such extreme ages is receiving benefits. Sanders refused to note that, once again, it’s not that someone of that age is actually receiving the benefits – it’s someone else using the deceased person’s personal information.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) has addressed concerns about outdated records. A 2023 audit by the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) revealed that while the SSA’s database included approximately 18.9 million individuals born in 1920 or earlier without recorded death dates, these records pertained to non-beneficiaries and did not involve improper payments. Furthermore, the SSA implemented an automated system in September 2015 that terminates benefits for individuals listed as 115 years or older, effectively preventing payments to deceased individuals.

Sanders’ remarks underscore his commitment to protecting Social Security from what he perceives as unfounded attacks and misinformation aimed at undermining the program. He continues to advocate for the expansion and strengthening of Social Security to ensure its solvency and effectiveness for future generations.

Bernie Sanders refused to admit statements by Trump’s administration were about fraud being committed, not an actual human being who was between 100-360-years-old.
