WASHINGTON, D.C. — White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has publicly rebuked MSNBC host Symone Sanders-Townsend for her comments regarding the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland resident sent to El Salvador. Sanders-Townsend expressed concern that “people of color” could be targeted next following Garcia’s deportation.

During a recent press briefing, Leavitt labeled Sanders-Townsend’s remarks as “racist and insane,” accusing her of spreading misinformation and fear. Leavitt emphasized that President Trump’s immigration policies focus on removing illegal immigrants with criminal records, irrespective of race or ethnicity. She stated that the administration’s actions aim to protect all American citizens and uphold the rule of law.

Leavitt also highlighted support from legal immigrant communities and the Black community for the administration’s immigration stance. She cited an incident in New York City where minority children were displaced from their school to accommodate immigrants, arguing that such policies prioritize non-citizens over American citizens.

The deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia has been a contentious issue. Initially described as an administrative error, the Trump administration later asserted that Garcia had ties to the MS-13 gang, a claim his legal team denies. A federal judge ruled that his deportation was illegal and ordered his return to the U.S., citing the dangerous conditions of the Salvadoran prison where he is held.

The administration’s handling of Garcia’s case and the subsequent political discourse underscore the ongoing debates surrounding immigration policy and enforcement in the United States.
