In October 2023, a tragic shooting at a bowling alley in Lewiston, Maine left 18 people dead and 13 injured. A fund raised $4 million, promising all proceeds would go to victims, but over $1 million was directed to non-profits.

Nine of these were Somali organizations, including one linked to city councilman Iman Osman, a Somali refugee, who just resigned because he was caught in crimes.
