Cea Weaver, Director of the Office of Tenant Protection, has said NYC should be able to “seize private property” and, in 2019, argued that “private property, especially homeownership, is a weapon of white supremacy.” By her own reasoning, her mother, Celia Applegate, would be contributing to that, given she owns a $1.6 million home in Nashville. Applegate and her partner bought the house in 2012 for just over $800,000, and it’s now valued at about $1.6 million.
