Hillary Clinton has faced intense public accusations from the Trump administration regarding her role in the origins of the "Russia-gate" investigation.

President Donald Trump and Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard have characterized these actions as a "years-long coup" and a "treasonous conspiracy" intended to subvert the results of the 2016 election.

While there is no verified report of Clinton spending exactly $10 million specifically to "overthrow" the government, the figure of $10 million has appeared in several related contexts.

Most notably, after the 2008 primary, then-Senator Barack Obama helped Clinton raise at least $10 million to retire her campaign debt. Additionally, in 2016, Clinton’s campaign reportedly took over approximately $10 million of the Democratic National Committee’s debt, an arrangement that critics later described as a "secret takeover" of the party.

The current 2025 allegations focus on the funding of the Steele dossier, which Trump frequently claims cost approximately $12 million. The administration argues that this funding was used to manufacture intelligence used by the Obama administration to delegitimize Trump's presidency.

In July 2025, DNI Tulsi Gabbard released declassified documents that she claimed provided "overwhelming evidence" of this conspiracy, subsequently issuing criminal referrals to the Department of Justice for several former officials.
