The case involving Ladan Mohamed Ali remains one of the most high-profile instances of judicial interference in Minnesota history.
Ali, a 31-year-old woman from Seattle, pleaded guilty in September 2024 to attempting to bribe a juror during the first trial of the massive Feeding Our Future fraud case.
She was recruited by defendants in that trial to deliver a bag containing $120,000 in cash to the home of a 23-year-old juror, with the promise of more money in exchange for a "not guilty" verdict. According to her plea agreement and court testimony, Ali and her co-conspirators surveilled the juror, tracking her home from the courthouse.
On June 2, 2024, Ali left a Hallmark gift bag containing the cash at the juror's doorstep and spoke with a relative, reiterating the offer for more funds if the defendants were acquitted. In a bizarre turn, Ali admitted that she was originally given $200,000 to deliver but pocketed $80,000 for herself before making the drop-off.
The juror immediately contacted authorities, leading to a federal investigation and the sequestration of the remaining jury. As of late 2025, Ali and her four co-defendants, Abdiaziz Farah, Abdimajid Nur, Abdulkarim Farah, and Said Farah, have all pleaded guilty to federal bribery charges.
While a sentencing date has not yet been set for Ali, she faces a potential prison term of approximately five to six years under federal guidelines. Her situation was further complicated in February 2025 when she was arrested for DWI in Mendota Heights after rear-ending a vehicle and fleeing the scene; she reportedly registered a blood alcohol content of .284, more than three times the legal limit.
This bribery plot was a "corruption stacked on corruption" according to federal prosecutors, as it attempted to undermine a trial where defendants were accused of stealing $250 million meant for child nutrition programs. The incident remains a focal point in the broader investigation into Minnesota's fraud scandals, which has seen 73 people charged to date
