United States Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard issued a series of blunt warnings characterizing "Islamist ideology" as the foremost near-term and long-term threat to American freedom and security.

Speaking at the Turning Point USA AmericaFest conference in Phoenix, Arizona, Gabbard argued that this political ideology is fundamentally incompatible with the U.S. Constitution and Western civilization because it rejects individual liberty and the concept of God-given inalienable rights. Gabbard specifically highlighted what she described as the domestic spread of this ideology, naming cities such as Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Dearborn, Michigan, as locations where "Islamist clerics" are attempting to radicalize young people.

She drew a sharp distinction between religious freedom and political doctrine, asserting that advocacy efforts to implement Sharia law in U.S. cities like Houston, Texas, and Paterson, New Jersey, are part of an agenda to create a "global caliphate" that would eventually govern America.

During her address, Gabbard also cited security developments in Europe as a cautionary tale, claiming that several cities in Germany had been forced to cancel traditional Christmas markets due to extremist threats.

She cautioned that the nature of the threat has evolved from structured overseas organizations to more diffuse, online-radicalized "lone wolf" actors who are becoming increasingly difficult for the intelligence community to track.

Gabbard’s remarks have triggered significant pushback and calls for her resignation. New Jersey Senator Cory Booker condemned the statements as "dishonest, cruel, and un-American," accusing Gabbard of endangering the Muslim community in Paterson by sowing fear and division.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) also issued a statement labeling her claims "delusional" and "disqualifying," while the Office of the Director of National Intelligence maintained that her warnings were delivered in her official capacity to address genuine national security concerns.
