Trump: "thousands of additional documents are coming"

President Donald Trump made several high-profile statements regarding the declassification of government files, specifically claiming that "thousands of additional documents are coming."

During a press appearance on July 22, 2025, Trump asserted that he had authorized the release of materials proving a "coup" attempt by former President Barack Obama and other Democratic leaders. He stated that the "leader of the gang" was Obama and promised that the upcoming documents would provide "irrefutable proof" of treason and other federal crimes.

This rhetoric intensified in late 2025 following the passage of the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which President Trump signed into law in mid-November. Although he initially dismissed the push for these files as a "Democrat hoax," he eventually complied with the bipartisan legislation requiring the release of all unclassified materials related to Jeffrey Epstein by December 19, 2025.

On December 24, 2025, the Department of Justice announced it had uncovered over 1 million additional documents potentially related to the case, stating it would take "a few more weeks" to process and release them due to the massive volume of material.

Throughout his first year back in office, the Trump administration has executed multiple large-scale declassifications under Executive Order 14176. These releases included tens of thousands of pages regarding the assassinations of John F. Kennedy (released in March 2025), Robert F. Kennedy (April–June 2025), and Martin Luther King Jr. (July 2025).

As of late December 2025, the administration continues to face criticism from both sides of the aisle; Republicans demand more transparency on the Epstein files, while Democrats accuse the administration of using selective redactions to protect the president, whose name appears in various flight logs and investigative records released earlier in the month.
