72-year-old Target employee Jeanie Beeman became the center of a viral incident at a store in Chico, California, after being verbally accosted by a customer for wearing a red "Freedom" T-shirt featuring the name of late conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

The customer, identified as Michelea Ponce, filmed herself berating Beeman with profanities and accusing her of supporting a racist. Beeman remained notable for her calm demeanor, de-escalating the situation by telling Ponce she would not argue and wishing her a "nice day."

The confrontation sparked widespread outrage online, leading to a massive wave of support for Beeman from conservative circles. A fundraiser on GiveSendGo surpassed $260,000 in donations, intended to support Beeman, who reportedly considered retirement following the incident.

Beeman was later honored with a standing ovation at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest 2025 in Phoenix, where she was praised by Erika Kirk, Charlie Kirk's widow, and joined commentators Benny Johnson and Jack Posobiec on stage.

Despite the backlash against her harasser, Beeman publicly stated she did not want Ponce to lose her job at Enloe Health, remarking that "two wrongs don't make a right". Ponce eventually issued a formal apology, admitting she behaved badly and took full responsibility for her actions.

Following an investigation, the Chico Police Department determined that while the encounter was emotionally charged, Ponce's conduct did not meet the threshold for criminal charges and was protected under the First Amendment.
