CIA Director John Ratcliffe and various administration officials have continued to advance allegations that Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA) and his staff "colluded" with a whistleblower during the 2019 impeachment of Donald Trump. These claims primarily focus on reports that the whistleblower contacted Schiff's House Intelligence Committee staff before officially filing their complaint regarding the Trump-Ukraine phone call.
While Schiff and his spokespeople have maintained that these interactions were standard procedure for providing guidance on how to report wrongdoing, Ratcliffe and other critics have characterized the contact as a coordinated effort to manipulate the impeachment process.
The discourse around these allegations escalated in 2025 following new reports regarding a separate whistleblower. In August 2025, testimony from a former Democratic staffer alleged that Schiff had authorized the leak of classified information in 2017 to target then-President Trump. FBI Director Kash Patel reportedly declassified memos related to this testimony, which supporters of the administration have cited as further evidence of a pattern of political weaponization of intelligence by Schiff.
During his January 2025 Senate confirmation hearings, Ratcliffe frequently referenced his past record of challenging Schiff, particularly over the 2020 Hunter Biden laptop story, which he argued was wrongly dismissed as "Russian disinformation." Ratcliffe has framed his role as CIA Director as one of "speaking truth to power" against what he describes as the politicization of intelligence by figures like Schiff.
Schiff has consistently denied all allegations of collusion or illegal leaks, labeling them as "absolutely and categorically false" and "baseless smears." In 2025, Schiff voted against Ratcliffe's confirmation as CIA Director, citing concerns that Ratcliffe's history demonstrated a willingness to put politics above national security.
Despite these objections, the Senate confirmed Ratcliffe on January 23, 2025, making him the first person to have served as both Director of National Intelligence and Director of the CIA.
Hopefully there's something Adam Schiff could go to jail for, but we know the Democrats will protect him. That's what corrupt people do.
