Governor Tim Walz has been called out for allowing BILLIONS worth of fraud to take place in his state by Somalians. He's at risk of his state losing millions in funding.

He addressed escalating allegations of "industrial-scale fraud" within Minnesota’s state-run programs by accepting personal accountability while simultaneously disputing federal estimates of the losses. During a series of press conferences, Walz stated that the fraud occurred "on my watch" and emphasized that he is the one responsible for fixing the oversight failures that allowed it to happen.

His response comes amid intense political pressure from the Trump administration and state Republicans, who have criticized his leadership as he seeks a third term as governor.

To combat the issue, Walz launched a new statewide fraud prevention program on December 12, 2025, appointing former Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Superintendent Tim O’Malley as the state’s first Director of Program Integrity. This initiative includes a partnership with WayPoint, a private forensic accounting firm, to establish consistent investigative standards and specialized auditing across all state agencies.

Additionally, Walz issued an executive order directing agencies to share data more aggressively and empowered the Department of Human Services to proactively pause payments to providers suspected of irregularities.

A significant rift has emerged between Walz and federal prosecutors over the total amount of money lost. On December 18, 2025, the U.S. Attorney’s Office suggested that up to half of the $18 billion spent on 14 "high-risk" programs since 2018, nearly $9 billion, could be fraudulent. Walz lashed out at these figures, calling them "speculation" and "sensationalized," and noted that state investigators have only confirmed losses in the tens of millions of dollars.

He has demanded that federal authorities share their evidence so the state can immediately "slam the door shut" on any ongoing fraudulent payments.
