Jesus Ayala and Jzamir Keys were sentenced in Clark County District Court for the August 2023 murder of Andreas "Andy" Probst, a retired California police chief. Ayala, who was 17 at the time of the crime and identified as the driver, received a sentence of 20 years to life. Keys, the 16-year-old passenger who filmed the deliberate hit-and-run while laughing, was sentenced to 18 years to life. These terms represent the maximum allowable penalties under Nevada law for offenders who were juveniles at the time of the offense. Both defendants previously pleaded guilty to second-degree murder with use of a deadly weapon and battery with use of a deadly weapon as part of a plea deal reached in October 2025.

During the hearing, Judge Jacqueline Bluth described the incident as far more than a "joyride," highlighting a spree that involved stealing multiple vehicles and striking another bicyclist before killing Probst. The victim's family expressed profound grief, with Probst’s widow, Crystal, stating that the pair had "stolen the future we earned". While the sentences reflect the severity of the act, Nevada law requires both men to be eligible for parole after serving 20 years, meaning they could potentially be released in the mid-2040s. Additionally, the Probst family is pursuing a wrongful death lawsuit against the defendants and Hyundai Motor Company, alleging that vehicle security flaws—popularized via social media "TikTok" challenges—directly enabled the car thefts that led to the fatal spree.
