Catholic Leaders Complaining About Immigration Enforcement Get Bodied By Tom Homan
Several Catholic leaders, including Pope Leo XIV, have sharply criticized President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement, and the timing is raising eyebrows as well as border czar Tom Homan’s ire.
It’s worth noting that the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and affiliated groups had been receiving hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to help resettle immigrants in the United States. When the Trump administration moved to shut off that funding stream, the criticism seemed to escalate.
There’s also a big a disconnect between the Vatican’s stance and conditions at the U.S. border. Vatican City maintains strict entry and immigration controls, enforced in part by the Swiss Guard, while also being critical of Trump’s equally strict enforcement of existing immigration laws.
