Congresswoman accused of stealing $5 million in FEMA disaster relief funds
A U.S. congresswoman is set to face a House Ethics hearing tomorrow over allegations she stole $5 million in FEMA disaster relief funds, laundered the money through a family business, and used it to finance her campaign. She’s facing 15 federal charges with a possible 53-year sentence. When asked if Democrats would support her expulsion, Hakeem Jeffries responded, “Next question.” The congresswoman, Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, a Democrat from Florida, remains in office. If a Republican were accused of this, it would dominate the news cycle.
