At least one of those agents knew the laptop hard drive contents were genuine, so why did they sign it? And did the other intel agents know too? Questions need to be asked. A letter suggesting the Hunter Biden laptop story could be part of a Russian disinformation operation was signed by 51 intelligence veterans, and one of them said that they knew the contents of the device were genuine at the time – but they still signed the letter anyway in what was obviously a big lie.
The letter was used to dismiss the laptop and put the story to rest, but politicians and people on social media would not ever let this story sit by the wayside and they continued to demand answers. It came out in the days leading up to the 2020 presidential election and many of the contents of which have since been analyzed and shown to be authentic.
“All of us figured that a significant portion of that content had to be real to make any Russian disinformation credible,” a former Defense Intelligence Agency deputy director, Douglas Wise, told The Australian in a new interview more than two years later.
The signees warned in the letter that the October 2020 arrival of reports about the laptop “has all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.” Former CIA Director John Brennan and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper were also included among the signees, according to Daily Wire.
