Republican Matt Gaetz said he would do this months ago and has kept his word. Matt Gaetz has officially nominated former President Donald Trump to be the next Speaker of the House. It remains unclear what will happen next as this is a current event taking place today. As stated in a report by Florida Politics back in March:
Matt Gaetz, who represents Florida’s 1st Congressional District, was the sole out-of-state politician on a stage that included Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and other Trump-adjacent candidates. “Give us the ability to fire Nancy Pelosi, take back the majority, and impeach Joe Biden, and I’m going to nominate Donald Trump for Speaker of the United States House of Representatives,” Gaetz said to cheers."
Meanwhile, Kevin McCarthy has failed several times to get enough votes for the role of Speaker. The ballots have moved to round two and beyond for the first time in 100 years. Republican Matt Gaetz vocally suggested that fellow GOP members were being bullied or threatened to be thrown out of their committees if they did not support Kevin McCarthy to be the next Speaker of the House.
As we previously reported, the vote for Speaker is in complete shambles and there was still not decision after a third ballot (at the time this was posted). They took a break last night and were supposed to meet up today for another ballot.
McCarthy, who's being called a RINO, now stands to be tested and challenged by a real Conservative.
If you haven't noticed by now, the vote for the new Speaker of the House went through several ballots with Kevin McCarthy failing multiple times to gain enough support. Now reports are saying that a true Conservative might finally step up to challenge him, because some people consider McCarthy to be a Republican in name only, otherwise known as a RINO.
