San Fran appoints noncitizen who CAN'T VOTE to elections commission

You really can't make this stuff up, folks! It's just another day in the world of trending politics news where San Francisco, under Democratic leadership of Mayor London Breed, has now appointed a woman to the San Fran Elections Commission and she legally can't even vote. Her name is Kelly Wong and she's an advocate for immigrant rights, but she can't vote because she's not a citizen here. Resident, sure, citizen, no - or not yet.

It's one thing to be an advocate for immigrants, helping them find their way when they move to America, but if she can't vote herself, then she may want to figure that out first. While I admire her desire to help others, I still think it's a 'clown world' move by Democrats to appoint people who can't vote to an elections commission. It's like asking the five-foot white guy to cover Shaq in a basketball game. The guy playing defense might know HOW to do it, but he still CAN'T do it. So what do you do? You make him a coach. In this case, Kelly Wong is already an advocate, so why does she need to be on the election commissions team?

How did this all happen? This is the result of a voter-approved thing that took place in 2020 where it REMOVED the requirement for people to be a citizen if they're on a board, commission, or any advisory panel in San Francisco. OK, maybe they should have left this one out though considering SHE CAN'T VOTE. So what will she do? KQED reported:

One of Wong’s priorities is to ensure that voter materials are translated in a way that people can understand – she pointed out, for example, that there isn’t an equivalent term for the word “reparations” in Cantonese or Mandarin.

“I’ve seen how language and cultural barriers prevent immigrants with limited English proficiency from fully exercising their right to vote,” Wong said. “Is there a way to do voter outreach that is not just about translation but can touch on political education while maintaining neutrality and impartiality in elections?”

Since 2022, Wong has done this kind of work as an immigrant rights advocate at Chinese for Affirmative Action, a civil rights group in San Francisco that focuses on the city’s Chinese community. Since commissioners are unpaid, Wong will continue her work as an advocate, helping people like Christina Ouyang, who immigrated here from China 13 years ago.

That all sounds fine, but she still can't vote. She should just be an advocate on a different board, not an elections board, because it just sends the wrong message entirely and it's rather confusing. Imagine going out telling people to vote and you can't even do it yourself. People are gonna be like "cool, who are you voting for?" and Wong is gonna be like "well, I can't actually vote, I'm just here to tell you to vote." Then people are going to make a DERP face and be like "huh? you can't even vote and you're here telling me about voting?"

But hey, it's exactly what we expect from the Democrats these days. After all, some of them still think men can get pregnant. And by the way, I'm dating an Asian woman myself, so I know first hand two wongs don't make a white. I am happy for Kelly Wong's success and admire her drive and determination to help people as an advocate, but I don't think it makes any sense whatsoever to put a non-voting person on a commission that is literally all about voting. Like they say, make it make sense.
