"It's Alarming:" Number of homeless people went UP in 2023, sharpest increase since 2007

We have a serious problem, America. Despite what Joe Biden and do-nothing Kamala Harris might be saying on X, there's a big problem with the cost of living, rent being too high, interest rates at CRIMINAL levels, and homes being too expensive. Add that to the problem with food and consumer goods costing too much and you have the horrible fast track to being homeless and it's affecting people of all kinds, all over America.

Homelessness went up more than 12% in 2023, reaching a sad number of 653,104 homeless people - that we know of. USA Today reports this is the sharpest increase since the government started keeping track of homeless people in 2007 - according to the Department of Urban Planning and Development. The number in 2022? 582,462.

So what is the government doing about it? Why isn't the government fighting to get interest rates down, rent down, and food costs lowered too? Why are we paying people $15 an hour to do simple tasks, driving the consumer prices up? We all know the corporations are NOT going to absorb these costs. They're going to push them on the consumers. Democrats pushing for $15 an hour helped caused these issues with their white knight savior nonsense that didn't actually help us in the big picture, did it?

As for the homelessness problem - that's just awful because we waste so much money sending it to Ukraine, but we probably could have helped our own people instead. We could probably reduce costs, lower interest rates, and help people that way while banks still keep getting rich. Our government sucks man, everything they touch turns to sh*t because they're just not efficient at what they do.

USA Today's report on homelessness further said:

The data comes months after the federal government found the U.S. is facing growing rates of poverty and food insecurity. In 2022, the most recent year for which data is available, more than 12% of the nation was living below the poverty line and nearly 13% said they didn't have enough to eat.

The U.S. saw such a sharp increase this year because more people are becoming unhoused faster, according to Ann Oliva, CEO of the National Alliance to End Homeless. More people are also becoming homeless for the first time, she said.

"That move from a housed situation to an unhoused situation is happening more quickly, and it's more direct," Oliva said. "More folks are reporting, as they're showing up in the homeless services system, that they're coming directly from a lease."

Unlike in years past, the spike in U.S. homelessness was driven by increases among all populations and demographics, HUD said Friday, including unhoused families with children and unhoused veterans.

"It's alarming," Oliva said.
