Senate pushed legislation to stop Biden from giving China a ‘Developing Nation’ handout
The report on Free Beacon suggested that the Senate Foreign Relations Committee is responsible for approving the "Ending China's Developing Nation Status Act", but there's always a catch. It now needs the secretary of state to be interested in changing China's status, so the pressure may mount on them to push through. Free Beacon further stated the following on the legislation:
Proponents of the bill say that status can allow special privileges in some organizations or treaties.
The committee's approval paves the way for the measure to be considered by the full Senate, although there was no immediate indication of when that might take place.
A similar measure passed the House of Representatives in March by 415-0.
How does this affect President Joe Biden? Free Beacon said, back in April, that Biden was offering to use $1 billion of taxpayer funds to put towards a United Nations climate fund that sends money to 'developing nations' and since China is still in that category, then China would potentially get some of that money. That means millions could go to China if the I's are dotted and T's are crossed. Some lawmakers want to prevent this from happening by stripping China of the 'developing nation' status it may have, which would then prevent China from getting any of that money.
Free Beacon further reported that this, as of now, appears to remain a bipartisan issue where both sides are interested in the same, or similar goals. The report said:
The desire for a hard line on China is one of the few truly bipartisan sentiments in the perennially divided U.S. Congress, and members of Congress have introduced dozens of bills seeking to address competition with China's communist government.
The Foreign Relations panel also approved the "Taiwan Protection and National Resilience Act," which would require reports from government agencies on U.S. options to prepare for and respond to a possible Chinese invasion of Taiwan.
China views democratically governed Taiwan as its own territory and has increased military, political and economic pressure to assert those claims.
Taiwan strongly objects to China’s sovereignty claims and says only the island’s people can decide their future.
Now people are wondering what President Joe Biden will say about this. Should China ever get any money from the United States, for anything?
