Mark Hamill’s Controversial Post Draws Backlash Over Trump Imagery

Actor’s Social Media Post Sparks Outrage

Actor Mark Hamill has come under fire for a post shared on the platform Bluesky that many have deemed inappropriate. The post features an image depicting former President Donald Trump appearing to lie dead in a grave, accompanied by the caption “If Only.” In the photo, Trump is shown beneath a gravestone inscribed with the name “DONALD J. TRUMP 1946–2024.” The phrase “If Only” is prominently displayed at the bottom of the image.

In his commentary, Hamill stated, “If Only. He should live long enough to witness his inevitable devastating loss in the midterms, be held accountable for his unprecedented corruption, impeached, convicted & humiliated for his countless crimes. Long enough to realize he’ll be disgraced in the history books, forevermore. #don_TheCON.” The post quickly drew a substantial amount of criticism online.

Criticism and Response

Critics of Hamill’s post argued that the imagery of a deceased president is particularly sensitive in today’s context, especially given the recent history of threats and assassination attempts against political figures.  Hamill emphasized that Trump should be dead, the backlash is warranted because it’s a really bad thing to say about someone, especially a president.
