Trump Lawyer Alina Habba Sends Liberal into a Frenzy Over Colorado Ballot Comments

Alina Habba, a lawyer for Donald Trump, recently defended comments she made suggesting U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh will rule in Trump’s favor regarding Colorado’s decision to remove the former president from the primary ballot.

In December, the Colorado Supreme Court ruled that Trump was disqualified from appearing on the state’s 2024 primary ballot, citing Section 3, also known as the “insurrection clause,” of the 14th Amendment. This ruling was in response to Trump’s conduct surrounding the events that occurred on January 6, 2021, at the U.S. Capitol.

Currently, the odds would appear in favor of former President Trump, who nominated three judges of the conservative majority bench on the Supreme Court. Habba appeared on Fox News, telling host Sean Hannity that she has “faith” in some justices of the nation’s highest court to “step up” and issue a proper decision on Colorado’s controversial ballot ruling. The lawyer explained that she believes these justices will follow through on the issue, not because they are inherent supporters of Trump, but because they seek to interpret the law fairly.

“It should be a slam dunk in the Supreme Court. I have faith in them. People like Kavanaugh, who the president fought for, who the president went through hell to get into place, he’ll step up,” Habba said. “Those people will step up not because they’re pro-Trump, but because they’re pro-law, because they’re pro-fairness, and the law on this is very clear.”

As one might expect, Habba’s comments sent liberals into a frenzy. Former United States Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama Joyce Vance labeled Habba’s remarks “appalling.” Vance argued that Habba was implying the federal judges would prioritize allegiance to Trump over their fair interpretation of the law.

“That was a really appalling statement for any lawyer to make, and particularly a lawyer involved in a contest like this,” she said. “All federal judges are appointed by a president from one party or another and we expect all of them to leave that political origin story at the door when they take the bench. They decide the cases based on the law and the facts and not on the president who got them there.”

Habba has been a fierce advocate of Donald Trump, consistently defending him against the left’s antics. The American Tribune reported on comments from the lawyer last month providing an update on the Colorado ballot decision. “I find it ironic that there’s a January 6 charge pending, but due process doesn’t matter because Colorado’s liberal judges want to take him off the ballot because they can’t beat Biden in the ballots,” Habba said.

And there is no question in my mind. Due process exists for a reason. There has to be some America left.” Habba added that she was confident in the decision the Supreme Court will make on the controversial case. “I’m not even concerned that the Supreme Court will make the right decision here.” Habba further slammed Colorado’s decision to keep Trump off the ballot, suggesting it was “anti-American” behavior and “absolutely ridiculous.”
