I had zero idea that “Lucy” stood for LSD, or that John Lennon was literally shouting out Timothy Leary’s name on the record Give Peace a Chance. [1] I didn’t know that Leary was an ex-Harvard professor pushing acid on everyone. I was also clueless about his CIA connection. Like millions of us, I believed the hippie thing just bubbled up as another form of teenage rebellion.
