Randi Mahomes, mother of NFL quarterback Patrick Mahomes, posted a tribute to Charlie Kirk on social media following his assassination Wednesday.
She re-shared one of Kirk’s recent posts on X, adding the message: “Rest in heaven.”
Kirk’s original post that Randi Mahomes shared was from Sept. 6, and read, “Jesus defeated death so you can live.”
Randi, a Christian conservative who endorsed Donald Trump ahead of last November’s election, was among several sports figures to offer condolences after Kirk’s assassination.
Others in the NFL community who spoke out in support included Tim Tebow, Jaxson Dart, and Julian Edelman.
Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was shot once around 12:20 p.m. Wednesday while speaking to a crowd of mostly college students at Utah Valley University in Orem. The 31-year-old activist was killed as the event was just getting underway.
Police announced early Friday that they had arrested a suspect, identified by sources as Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old Utah resident.
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said at a press conference Friday “that a family member of Tyler Robinson reached out to a family friend who contacted the Washington County Sheriff’s Office with information that Robinson had confessed to them or implied that he had committed the incident.”
