Construction on the 225-foot-tall building commenced in 2021, aiming to serve as a presidential library among other functions. Kim Patterson, Deputy Director of the Obama Foundation, clarified that the building’s windowless exterior is an intentional design choice. The absence of windows is primarily intended to protect valuable artifacts and artworks displayed within the center.
During a tour provided to CBS News, Patterson stated, “There are not a lot of windows on the building, but that’s intentional, because sunlight is just not a friend to the artwork and the artifacts that are going inside of the building.” This approach demonstrates a commitment to preserving the integrity of historical items while also prioritizing their display and accessibility.
