Noem Gives New Details on Woman Fatally Shot by ICE Agent

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem provided new information regarding the incident involving a woman who was shot and killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer. According to Noem, the woman, identified as 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, had been “stalking and impeding” federal agents throughout the day leading up to the fatal encounter.

Incident Overview

Noem reported during a press conference that ICE officers had repeatedly instructed Good to exit her vehicle and stop obstructing law enforcement efforts. However, she allegedly refused to comply with these directives. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is now considering the incident as an act of “domestic terrorism.”

Footage from the scene revealed Good’s car halted in the middle of a residential street as ICE agents exited a dark gray Nissan Titan to approach her vehicle. As the agents attempted to communicate with Good, she reportedly instructed them to “go around.” Moments later, she abruptly shifted her vehicle into reverse, allegedly trying to flee the scene, which led to her being shot as the car moved backward.

The Reaction

Noem stated that Good had attempted to “weaponize her vehicle” and allegedly tried to run down a law enforcement officer. In contrast, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey criticized the agency’s account of events, deeming its claims of self-defense as questionable. He described the narrative surrounding the shooting as “bulls—.” Minnesota Governor Tim Walz also expressed his views after reviewing the incident video, urging the public to be skeptical of what he termed the DHS’ “propaganda machine.” Walz emphasized that the state would ensure a comprehensive investigation into the shooting to seek accountability and justice.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara announced that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) along with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension will lead the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Good’s death. It has been confirmed that Good was a U.S. citizen, and her death has heightened political tensions within Washington, where lawmakers are already engaged in contentious debates concerning the Trump administration’s immigration policies and the operations of ICE.

Political Implications

In the days leading up to the incident, the DHS had disclosed the deployment of 2,000 law enforcement officers to the Twin Cities. This operation aimed to address activities associated with “fraudsters, murderers, rapists, and gang members.” The shooting incident has elicited immediate backlash from progressive lawmakers. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat from New York, stated that ICE operates without accountability and called for the agency to be restricted. She asserted, “We just saw them murder an American citizen in cold blood,” while omitting the detail that Good had allegedly struck the agent with her vehicle.

In contrast, Vice President JD Vance defended ICE, reinforcing that the agency has the complete backing of the Trump administration. Vance addressed the public and stated, “To the radicals assaulting them, doxxing them, and threatening them: congratulations, we’re going to work even harder to enforce the law.”

The situation remains fluid as investigations continue and more information is released regarding the events that took place.
