Bill Maher says RBG ‘should’ve quit’ during Obama years, but she didn’t ‘take the hint’

Fans of the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg may not enjoy what “Real Time” host Bill Maher said about her during a recent appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” Kimmel and Maher talked about what was going on when news came out that Ginsburg had passed away and Maher said it wasn’t exactly a shock, but Kimmel pushed back, only to get Maher fired up and find himself on a rolling hill of words that might end up in controversy.

Their exchange went like this:

Maher:  Well, it’s not like her death was a shock.

Kimmel: Well, it was — it was, though.

Maher: Really? She was 100 and had cancer like a million times. I mean, she was a great justice but she should’ve quit. … she should’ve quit.

Kimmel: You think so?

Maher: Of course! Because then we wouldn’t have nutso! (nutso is a reference to new Justice Amy Coney Barrett)

Maher points out that Ginsburg had lunch with former President Barack Obama in 2013, and according to Fox News, had allegedly urged Ginsburg to retire. Had she retired, it would’ve opened the door for Obama to nominate a new justice to fill her seat.

At this point, Bill Maher slams the Democratic Party as a “loser party” who doesn’t know how to do politics.

“The Democratic plan for the Supreme Court was ‘Ruth Bader Ginsburg doesn’t die.’ And that’s why they’re such a loser party,” Maher explained while making an “L” sign on his forehead. “I vote for them, but they don’t know how to do politics. I mean, Obama did have her over to the office, you know, when he was still in office to hint.”

“Oh, you think that’s why … ” Kimmel responded with surprise.

“Of course! We know that’s why,” Maher quickly told Kimmel. “He wasn’t the sociable kind of guy. There was always a purpose to a meeting with him. So it was just like, ‘Hey, boy, that Supreme Court is an important place, huh … and you’re getting up in age.’ And she should’ve taken the hint. I mean, as great as she was in many ways, that really put us in a bad place because as I keep trying to say on my show, power begets power. When you lose power, you keep losing it.”
