Lawrence Jones investigates secret flights carrying migrants on ‘Cross Country.’ In this segment, a plane carrying more than 150 migrants has landed in NYC prompting concerns about what’s going on and why.
WATCH the segment:
Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki had confirmed last year that President Joe Biden’s administration was flying migrants from the border to places like New York and Florida.
Psaki said, when asked about this back in late 2021, said: “Well I’m not sure it’s in the middle of the night but let me tell you what’s happening here. It is our —” (she got interrupted) “Here we are talking about early flights, earlier than you might like to take a flight… It is our legal responsibility to safely care for unaccompanied children until they can be swiftly unified with a parent or a vetted sponsor and that’s something we take seriously.”
However, there was another problem. The NY Post said some of the migrants looked like men in their 20’s and this was pointed out again by National Review:
She said the administration has a “moral obligation” to carry out the reunification process and noted that the Office of Refugee Resettlement has been facilitating travel for children in its custody to their families or sponsors across the country in recent weeks.
While Psaki emphasized that the administration is legally obligated to care for children, the Post report indicates that some of the migrants appeared to be men in their 20’s.
Psaki confirmed the New York Post’s reporting that unaccompanied children were flown into Westchester County Airport and said they were “en route to their final destination to be reunified with their parents or vetted sponsor.”
As this goes on, many Americans are wondering how much gas it takes to relocate a migrant while American babies suffer through a formula shortage and Democrats want to send $40 billion to Ukraine.
To make issues possibly worse, the DHS suggested that if Title 42 is revoked, that America could face up to 18,000 migrants entering the country per day.
According to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, so many more as 18,000 migrants could pass this same southern border every day once the Trump’s Title 42 health regulation is removed, putting even more strain on federal authorities already stretched thin struggling to suppress the crisis.
“Title 42 is in charge of public health. So, starting in September of last year, we began to plan for its conclusion… “We’re not projecting 18,000,” Mayorkas said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “What we do in the department is a plan for multiple eventualities, so we’re ready for everything,” Mayorkas added.
When presenter Dana Bash probed Mayorkas on whether the Department of Homeland Security would be able to manage such a surge, he responded yes, but that the system would be put under “extreme pressure,” according to reports.
“It is our obligation to be prepared for many circumstances, and we are doing so, and we have very brilliant and devoted people on our team.” “There is no doubt that if we hit that level, it would put a tremendous burden on our system,” the DHS secretary stated.
“That is why the strategy we’ve put together asks for a variety of steps, not just domestically but also with our southern partners,” he stated.
In March 2020, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) implemented Title 42, which empowers border agents to deport individuals attempting to enter the US for public health grounds.
However, the CDC stated last month that the program would be allowed to expire on May 23, drawing bipartisan condemnation.
