On Wednesday, Arizona authorities moved to quash online rumors about the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of “Today” show anchor Savannah Guthrie, stating clearly that there is no suspect or person of interest in the case. “At this point, investigators have not identified a suspect or person of interest,” the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in a social media post, pushing back against earlier reports suggesting a family member was under suspicion. “Detectives are working closely with the Guthrie family.” Sheriff Chris Nanos reiterated the point as speculation spread online and on cable news, stressing that investigators are following evidence, not rumors. Authorities said they are reviewing hundreds of tips and continue to seek the public’s help.
