A waitress at El Taco Azteca in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood was violently attacked on April 4, 2025, over a dispute involving a $50 bill. Two customers, who had consumed most of their takeout order, demanded a refund, claiming dissatisfaction with the food. When the waitress refused, the situation escalated. One customer threw the waitress’s phone into a bucket of water, and both began punching, kicking, and stomping her for about two minutes, as captured on surveillance video. The waitress suffered bruises, cuts, and a broken finger. The restaurant owners reported the incident to the police, who are investigating, but no arrests have been made as of the latest reports.
