According to AAA, several states have average costs of above $5, with California&#8217;s average cost just around $6.<br \/>\nFollowing Russia&#8217;s entry into Ukraine on February 24, the United States &amp; several of its Western partners shut off all Russian oil and gas imports, contributing to skyrocketing gas prices in the United States.<br \/>\nTo combat this, Biden declared the release of 180 million barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, which his government claims will lower gasoline prices &#8220;quite dramatically.&#8221;<br \/>\nThe usual price of gas at the time was $4.225 a gallon.<br \/>\n\u201cIt\u2019s helped, but it\u2019s not been enough,\u201d Biden said on Monday.<br \/>\nIn other parts of the press conference, the president acknowledged that the US economy had &#8220;problems,&#8221; warning that recovery will be &#8220;a\u00a0haul&#8221; and &#8220;take some time.&#8221;<br \/>\nRepublicans slammed Biden on social networks, criticizing him of enjoying increased gas prices while Democrats continue to push for a radical environmental agenda.<br \/>\n\u201cDemocrats are celebrating the higher gas prices Americans are paying,\u201d the National Republican Congressional Committee stated.<br \/>\n\u201cBiden refers to the skyrocketing gas prices as an \u2018incredible transition.\u2019 They\u2019re saying the quiet part out loud now,\u201d House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) posted. \u201cThey\u2019re causing you pain at the pump because it\u2019s all part of their radical agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Biden was out of touch, as usual, and welcomed record-high gas prices, exclaiming that the pain at the pump was part of the US economy&#8217;s &#8220;incredible transition&#8221; away from fossil fuels.
