One that would consist an open source algorithm, one where free speech and adhering to free speech is given top priority, one where propaganda is very minimal. I think that kind of a platform is needed,\u201d Musk responded: \u201cAm giving serious thought to this,&#8221; per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/elon-musk-reveals-what-type-of-social-media-platform-he-is-giving-serious-thought-to-creating\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>An informal poll was conducted by Musk on Twitter, which stated: \u201cFree speech is essential to a functioning democracy. Do you believe Twitter rigorously adheres to this principle?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Over 2 million people responded to the poll, and 70.4% of them said that Twitter did not adhere to the principle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe consequences of this poll will be important. Please vote carefully,\u201d Musk added.<\/p>\n<p>A few days later, Musk followed up on the poll, as he wrote: \u201cGiven that Twitter serves as the de facto public town square, failing to adhere to free speech principles fundamentally undermines democracy. What should be done?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs a new platform needed?\u201d asked Musk.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Cernovich, a political commentator responded: \u201cBuy Twitter. If you\u2019re a leftist making death threats against conservatives. or organizing riots, Twitter respects your freedom of speech. Twitter also respects the freedom of speech for media hoaxes like when every major outlet framed an innocent Covington high school kid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Musk responded, \u201cDoesn\u2019t sound very balanced.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And another informal poll was conducted by Musk on Twitter, in which he asked if \u201cTwitter[\u2019s] algorithm should be open source.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>82.7% of more than 1.1 million people who responded said: \u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m worried about de facto bias in \u2018the Twitter algorithm\u2019 having a major effect on public discourse.
